  1. CLASSIFY THE WEED: Please click on one of the types below for a list of related weeds.

Algae - Cellular, lower weed form. No distinguishable stem or leaf. Commonly called scum or moss.

Emersed - Growing in shallow water with leaves or stems above the water.

Floating - Growing unattached or rooted with floating leaves.

Submersed - Growing in deeper water entirely below the surface.

  2. DETERMINE SPECIFIC WEEDS
The following pages picture common aquatic weeds throughout the country. Place your weed in a clear glass jar with water and compare it to the pictures. Pay careful attention to the leaves. (It's really not that difficult!)

If you are unable to identify your weed(s) consider these options:
    1. Contact your local Fish and Game or County Extension Agent.
    2. Contact a local College or University.
    3. Talk to your neighbors.
    4. Send us a sample. To do this, pull a sample of each weed. Be sure to include leaf and stem. Pat dry with a paper towel and place in a plastic bag. Enclose the sample, a brief note, and your return address in an envelope and forward to us. Please do not send samples packed in water - they rot, smell and are difficult to identify for you. Also, do not fully dry the sample, it may turn to dust and we will be unable to identify it. Please allow 10 working days for a response. Positive weed identification can not be made from photographs, FAX images or verbal descriptions.

  3. SELECT A PRODUCT:
